Sponsor PA CASA's Annual Awards Dinner

PA CASA’s pre-conference awards dinner will honor three outstanding individuals at the third annual PA CASA Awards Dinner and have the opportunity to hear from Keri Richmond whose work and commitment to influence policy on child welfare and health has been shaped by her personal journey in the U.S. foster care system. Hosted at the Penn Harris Hotel on Tuesday, April 23 from 6-8 p.m., this special dinner will celebrate and motivate all who advocate on behalf of children in the child welfare system.

Volunteer of the Year Award

Volunteers are the cornerstone of every local CASA program and are vital in advocating for the abused and neglected children in the Commonwealth. This award honors an individual for their commitment to outstanding volunteerism and advocacy. The Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes one extraordinary volunteer for their valuable and selfless devotion, dedication, and contribution to improving the lives of child victims of abuse and/or neglect. The person selected will embody the guiding principles (family preservation, collaboration, and diversity, equity, and inclusion) as outlined by National CASA/GAL Association and work to advance the CASA movement in their community.

Both active and former CASA volunteers who have been sworn-in as a CASA volunteer, appointed to the case of an abused and neglected child before dependency courts in Pennsylvania and are in compliance with National CASA/GAL Association standards and Pennsylvania’s Juvenile Act are eligible to be nominated. Prior to review by the selection panel, applications will be screened for compliance with National CASA/GAL Association Standards for Local Programs. If the nomination is made by someone other than current local CASA staff members, PA CASA will confirm eligibility with the local CASA program. Each program is invited to submit only one applicant.

CASAs Are Extraordinary People

A CASA volunteer is a community member appointed by a judge to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children, in accordance with the PA Juvenile Act*. They complete pre-service training, meet with the child, parents, family members, neighbors, school officials, doctors and others involved in the child’s life who might have facts about the case. Based on their findings, they submit reports to the court and attend court hearings concerning the child.

CASA is the only program of its kind, assigning one compassionate adult advocate to the case of one abused and neglected child or sibling group. A CASA volunteer is the only person involved who is assigned to a caseload of one.

Local CASA programs across Pennsylvania provide and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy in their communities so that abused or neglected children can be safe, establish permanence, and have the opportunity to thrive. They recruit, screen, train, and supervise volunteers appointed through the Dependency Court.

PA CASA’s mission is to grow, strengthen, and unite local CASA programs so they can ensure the safety, well-being, and forever home for every abused and/or neglected child in Pennsylvania.

PA CASA fulfills this mission by increasing the number of children served by CASA volunteers and ensuring that every CASA volunteer provides high-quality, equitable, healing-centered advocacy. PA CASA strives to provide critical resources for the 22 existing CASA programs serving 28 counties, open new CASA programs, and achieve our vision of a CASA volunteer for every abused and neglected child in Pennsylvania.
